This video was show around NYC in a number of recognizable spots, most of which are too hectic to enjoy when you are there but are strangely beautiful when displayed at high speed.
While the time-lapse looks spectacular is does feel a bit like a tech demo. Check out the video’s notes and you’ll see that it was in fact shot with a Dynamic Perception dolly kit.
Using a dolly during a time-lapse is interesting because the amount the camera moves on the track has to be consistent and timed to be in keeping with the length of your video. So not only do you have an intervalometer timing your camera, but there is a motion controller that is controlling the dolly’s movement. They are all simple enough tools, but I’d wager it’s a lot to juggle when you have your rig positioned on a sidewalk in Manhattan. As for the rest of the hardware, it was shot with a Canon 5D MKII and a standard array of high-end lenses.
